Introduction

Welcome to the e-book / companion CD edition of the Field Guide to Postal Uses of the Americana Series.  For those who acquired a paper grayscale-printed version, the main purpose of this e-book is to allow you to view the covers illustrated in the guide as full-color scans here.  Plus additional bonus covers and material are included.  For those who obtained the entire e-book version here, you can access chapter PDF files using the menu below, then optionally enlarge or print pages using grayscale or color printing (using Acrobat Reader, a free utility program available to download from Adobe's website).

To find covers matching those in the field guide, simply select pages by chapter Number / stamp design below, or by stamp denomination along the top of this home page.  These pages match the stamp chapters in the guide, showing a reduced image of each numbered figure.  Bonus covers and illustrations follow in most cases, with captions for each.  The CD icons access color scans & bonus material (companion CD).  If present, the book icons access the field guide's PDF files (entire e-book).

From each chapter's list, you can select almost any scan to view it in true proportion.  Viewing a scan in its own window, moving the browser cursor near a scan's lower-right corner reveals an "enlarge" icon.  Selecting the "enlarge" icon expands the scan to its fullest size supported by its resolution.  Note this is especially useful when viewing the color studies.  (Use the browser's Back function to return to the chapter page.)

~ (you are viewing an online tour demo of the e-book / companion CD -- some links (marked #) will work exactly like the actual e-book; others [& most pictures] are place-holders) ... 304 total pages (color throughout), 185 figures (dozens of short stories), 19 in-depth articles ...
(contact the author by e-mail at bottom for various ordering options; the current price postpaid to USA addresses for the e-book (with bonuses, all on CD) is $19.00.) ~

The CD also holds some rate-information spreadsheets (Microsoft Excel format).  (With Microsoft Internet Explorer, selecting a spreadsheet below brings up a "download" dialog.  Select Open to view in the browser, and use Back to return.)  The spreadsheets were tools in the preparation of some field guide Usage Graphs.  They have not been spruced-up or polished for "public view", so some of their parts are quite cryptic.  You are free to utilize them for your own individual use.  (Spreadsheets are provided without warranty or representation as to any suitability of purpose.  Public disclosure in whole or in part, whether as-is or adapted or modified, is prohibited.)

As an "offline Web" document (viewable with your Internet browser), this e-book is designed to be easy to use... just start below with the stamp design you're interested in.  While I tried to make navigation useful without resorting to programming, I welcome suggestions for improvements, or reports of any problems.  I hope you find the material useful to your collecting interests.  If you have interesting material of possible use for a future edition, please let me know.  -- Ron Blanks, 24 August 2009

NOTE ON PICTURES -- Each stamp-chapter page contains reduced images of figures from the printed guide, some with bonus pictures.   To see an image in "true" proportion (and enlarged), simply select it and a larger image appears in the browser.   If the image can be enlarged more, an "enlarge" icon appears at bottom right when you move your cursor over the image.  (Use your browser's "BACK" command to return to the chapter page.)  Special thanks to the following who contributed scans:  Roland Austin, Neal Lamb, Joann Lenz, Richard Matta, Arnold Selengut, Jeff Switt, and Steve Unkrich.

ADDITIONAL EXHIBITS -- The following modern postal history enthusiast(s) provided their own galleries of fascinating usage covers, some involving the Americana Series.  You are invited to visit their respective Web sites (while online) at these links:
