Bonus 3-8. Three 24c stamps with two 13c Eagle & Shield stamps on certified (return receipt requested) one-ounce letter, Dec. 7, 1976. The 98c postage paid for 60c certified fee, 25c RRR fee, and 13c postage. (Courtesy of...? I misplaced the source to credit; please let me know.) |

Bonus 3-9. 24c stamp on envelope of unknown weight to Luxembourg, Nov. 16, 1977. The item was returned due to a U.S. East Coast dock strike, which affected surface mail (loaded onto ships). Without a mail endorsement, the 24c overpaid the 18c surface rate for one ounce. (24c was the rate for international small packet under four ounces [113 g].) A collector might have prepared this cover in order to obtain the auxiliary markings shown. (Courtesy of...? I misplaced the source to credit; please let me know [but it's likely from an eBay auction].) |

Bonus 3-10. 24c stamp with Prominent Americans $1 and 25c stamps on two-ounce (28-57 g) 1st-class letter sent special delivery, Jan. 31, 1978. This is one of a very few three-stamp combos of available stamps to meet the $1.49 total postage and fees (see also Figure 4-11). $1.25 paid for special delivery, and 24c paid for postage. |
